The catch is a con — and only we're in on it.
Two American fishermen cast their bait and wait, sure they're about to land a big one. What they can't see is the punchline: below the surface, a tuxedoed crab waiter is calmly lifting their bait off the hooks and plating it for two fish diners at an underwater restaurant. He tugs the empty lines to fake a bite, the men reel in fast and excited — and pull up nothing but bare hooks. The whole joke lives in dramatic irony: the audience sees the heist, the fishermen never do. It ends on their deflated, baffled faces — and they never laugh. No dialogue, SFX only.
The whole trick
Split the world in two. Sell honest hope on the boat and a confident con underwater, then let the empty hooks connect the two. The audience knowing more than the fishermen is what makes the ending land.
Four steps, start to scroll-stopper.

Character reference images
Consistency is everything — the two fishermen, the crab and the boat must read identically in every frame, above and below water. Lock clean references in Nano Banana (Gemini) or GPT Image, keeping left/right positions and outfits fixed, then upload them all into Seedance 2.0. Because the story crosses the waterline, keep the boat and the restaurant table consistent too.

Fisherman 1
Red-cap angler (LEFT)American man in his forties, fair skin, stocky build, short brown beard. Red baseball cap, blue plaid shirt with rolled sleeves, tan fishing vest, khaki shorts, brown deck shoes. Baits with a small orange fish fillet. Stays on the LEFT throughout.
Eager · hopeful · deflates hard
Fisherman 2
Bucket-hat angler (RIGHT)American man in his forties, lightly tanned skin, lean build, clean-shaven. Beige bucket hat, sage-green fishing shirt, navy shorts, gray deck shoes. Baits with a pink shrimp. Stays on the RIGHT throughout.
Eager · hopeful · disbelieving
The Crab Waiter
The con artistA charming red-orange crab with expressive eyes on stalks, two large front claws and small walking legs. Black waiter vest, white shirt front, burgundy bow tie. Handles everything with his existing claws — no human hands or extra arms.
Confident · efficient · mischievous
The Fish Diners
The paying customersTwo colorful fish customers hovering at opposite sides of a small round table on the sandy seabed — cream tablecloth, two plates, a glowing pearl centerpiece. They lean toward their meals with delighted expressions as the crab plates the stolen bait.
Delighted · patient · well-servedPro move
Lock bait ownership to a side and never break it: the orange fillet is the left plate, the pink shrimp is the right plate. Tying each prop to a fisherman keeps continuity airtight when the camera crosses the waterline.
Storyboard the cast, the heist and the empty hooks
Before you animate anything, lock the story as three stills. Using your locked characters as reference, generate the setup on the boat, the free-dinner heist below, and the empty-handed ending. If these three read at a glance, the video will too.
| Frame | What we see | Prompt focus |
|---|---|---|
| CAST | Both fishermen at the railing casting in a coordinated move; the orange fillet and pink shrimp arc off the rods, two small splashes. | Medium-wide boat shot, warm sunlight, honest hope on both faces. |
| FREE DINNER | The crab slides the fillet off the left hook onto the left plate and the shrimp off the right hook onto the right plate; the diners lean in. | Medium shot, both hooks and plates visible, food moving hook → claw → plate, no teleporting. |
| EMPTY-HANDED | Both men lift their rods to two completely bare hooks; excitement collapses into wide eyes and open mouths. | Close two-shot on the boat, an empty hook in front of each man, the readable pause on disappointment. |

With your characters and boat already uploaded as image references, set 9:16 · 720p+ · 15s · no subtitles, and paste the full master prompt below. The shot-by-shot timeline shows the six beats and five hard cuts — the complete prompt follows underneath.
| Time | Beat |
|---|---|
| 0:00–0:02.5 | The cast — medium-wide boat shot; both fishermen cast in a coordinated move, fillet and shrimp land with two splashes. |
| 0:02.5–0:04 | Underwater reveal — follow the bait sinking on two lines; tilt down to the restaurant table; the crab looks up and smiles at the delivery. |
| 0:04–0:08 | Free dinner — the crab slides the fillet onto the left plate, then the shrimp onto the right; both hooks left empty, the diners lean in. |
| 0:08–0:09.5 | The trick — the crab grips each line above its empty hook, gives one firm downward tug, then releases both, smiling at the diners. |
| 0:09.5–0:12 | The bite — both rod tips dip; the fishermen light up and reel fast; two completely empty hooks rise above the railing. |
| 0:12–0:15 | Empty-handed — excitement collapses; the red-cap man sighs, the bucket-hat man shakes his head; hold the baffled faces. No laughing. |

The render is 80% of it. These finishing touches are what make it feel like a studio drop.
SFX only — no music
Layer rod swishes, reel clicks and splashes on the cast · muffled underwater bubbles below · claw clicks and soft plate taps at the table · two brief line-tension sounds on the trick · fast reel clicks and dripping water on the reel-in · a single disappointed sigh at the end. No dialogue, no music, no laughter.

Protect the reveal
Never cut back underwater after the ending, and never let the fishermen smile or laugh. The comedy only works if they stay in the dark and we stay in on it — one knowing grin from the boat kills the whole joke.
